The regular season of the 2019 prep football season came to end for many northeast Georgia teams on Friday night.
Several others around the area solidified their playoff positioning with big wins while others saw their positioning take a hit.
One area team captured region titles with Rabun County rolling past rival Union County 49-7 to take the Region 8-2A crown. Buford had a chance to win its fourth straight Region 8-5A title but Clarke Central stunned the No. 1 Wolves 31-28 in Athens.
In Region 7-3A, North Hall nipped Dawson County 40-37 at The Brickyard to take the No. 2 seed in the region and gain a first-round home playoff win in the process.
Gainesville's bid for a No. 2 finish in Region 8-6A was denied in a wild 41-38 loss to No. 5 Lanier at City Park Stadium. The loss also snapped the Red Elephants' three-game win streak.
Johnson's bid for its first playoff appearance since 2004 also was snuffed out by Loganville in a 35-14 loss on the road in Region 8-5A action.
In other key playoff positioning contests, Flowery Branch fell flat in a 34-14 loss to Denmark on the road to finish as the No. 4 seed in Region 7-4A.
Riverside Military Academy routed Providence Christian 42-0 at home in a Region 8-A crossover game. The Eagles now will have to wait for the final Class A Private power rankings to be released on Monday to see if they can climb back into the top 24. They sat 27th coming into Friday's season finale.
