Hall County voters have once again approved a penny sales tax to fund capital projects across the county and in the county's nine municipalities.
With all precincts tallied, the Hall County Elections Office reported 3,304 voters voted yes for the extension of the tax, while 1,422 voted against it - a 70.35% approval.
SPLOST VIII will be in place for six years. The new local option sales tax is expected to generate $216,960,000. SPLOST VII, a five year local option sales tax, expires in June 2020.
SPLOST VIII proceeds will fund the following projects in Hall County and its municipalities:
Level Two County-Wide Projects of Hall County:
- acquisition, construction and equipping of trails and associated greenspace
- construction of improvements on and to the Hall County Government Center campus and building
- construction of a parking deck adjacent to the main branch of the Hall County Library
- construction of improvements to the Hall County landfill
- acquiring ambulances
- expansion and improvements to the Hall County Fire Training Center
- acquisition, construction and equipping of an East Hall branch of the Hall County Library
- renovations and construction of improvements to the Hall County Courthouse complex building and campus
- renovations and construction of improvements to the Elachee Nature Center building for Chicopee Woods Area Park Commission
- construction of improvements to the Community Service Center campus
- paying any general obligation debt incurred for Level Two Projects and issued in conjunction with such tax
Hall County Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing and equipping water and sewer facilities
- constructing, renovating and/or equipping fire protection facilities, and acquiring fire apparatus and equipment
- acquiring, constructing and installing parks and leisure facilities and equipment
- constructing, remodeling, acquiring and/or equipping public safety facilities, including patrol cars
- making County building renovations and improvements
- acquisition, installation and equipping of technology infrastructure and enhancements at Hall County facilities
- paying any general obligation debt incurred for Hall County Projects and issued in conjunction with such tax
Town of Braselton Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving parks and leisure facilities
City of Buford Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
City of Clermont Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements,
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving parks and leisure facilities and equipment
City of Flowery Branch Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving parks and leisure facilities, land and equipment
- acquisition of public safety vehicles and equipment
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving of public works facilities and equipment
City of Gainesville Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving parks and recreation facilities and equipment
- acquisition, and improvement of public safety facilities and equipment
- construction of a downtown parking deck
City of Gillsville Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving parks and leisure facilities, vehicles and equipment
- renovation, improvement, construction and installation of downtown infrastructure
City of Lula:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing and installing water and sewer facilities, vehicles, and equipment
- acquiring, constructing, installing and improving parks and leisure facilities, vehicles and equipment
City of Oakwood Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements
- acquiring, constructing and installing water and sewer facilities
- acquisition of public safety vehicles and equipment
City of Rest Haven Projects:
- improving and constructing roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and related improvements.
