McDonough administrator named finalist for Clarkesville city manager

CLARKESVILLE – The Clarkesville City Council has named McDonough City Administrator Keith Dickerson as sole finalist for Clarkesville city manager.

Dickerson has been employed by the City of McDonough for 15 years, formerly serving as a wastewater plant manager and public works director. He assumed the city administrator position in 2015.

Mayor Barrie Aycock made the announcement at the end of Monday night’s city council meeting.

“He just appealed to all of us as being an easygoing people person who wanted to come to Clarkesville for the right reasons,” Aycock said. “He’s been in south Atlanta for a number of years, so he’s ready to move to North Georgia. He’s got family and property in South Carolina.”

Aycock said Dickerson was chosen from about 100 applicants and was the first person she and council members interviewed for the position, noting about 85 percent of the applicants “were not particularly qualified for the position”.

Aycock said Dickerson was the unanimous choice for the position. Among the reasons for that are his strong backgrounds in public works and finance, Aycock said.

Only a handful of applicants were interviewed by Aycock and council members.

“We did have five or six, maybe as many as 10, that we looked at carefully and of that we selected four” to interview, Aycock said. “One withdrew because his wife just didn’t want to move, so we were down to three. We interviewed three.”

A graduate of Kansas State University, Dickerson received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture.

A vote on Dickerson’s appointment will come at the council’s work session on Nov. 19.
