Charles and Haynes put on a show; White County wins, 34-14

GAINESVILLE — It was an offensive display of two of the area's best athletes on Friday at War Eagle Stadium.

White County (5-4, 2-3 Region 7-4A) quarterback J Ben Haynes and Chestatee (1-8, 0-5 Region 7-4A) quarterback Christian Charles, both juniors, combined for 788 total yards of offense and 42 points. 

Haynes, however, either rushed or passed for four touchdowns to lift Warriors to a 34-14 win over Chestatee on the road. 

Haynes rushed for 197 yards on 38 attempts and three touchdowns and passed for another 227 yards and a score. Haynes hooked up with Cooper Turner eight times for 130 yards. Jess Thomas had five receptions for 69 yards.

Charles finished with 235 rushing and 127 passing yards and two scores for the War Eagles. 

Both Charles (14-yard run) and Haynes (5-yard run) traded scores in the first quarter, ending 7-7 after 12 minutes.

But White County stretched its lead by half time off a Riley Stancil 6-yard run and a Haynes 12-yard run, 21-7.

Stancil opened the Warrior second-half scoring with an 8-yard catch from Haynes with 5:12 to go in the third. 

Charles answered to scored almost 3 minutes later on a 13-yard run. 

In the fourth, touchdowns were hard to come by from both teams until Haynes broke off a 6-yard run with :32 seconds left in the game. 

White County will play host Blessed Trinity and Chestatee welcomes West Hall to end the season on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
