Marsy's Law honors Cagle for victims' advocacy

By AccessWDUN Staff

Marsy’s Law for Georgia, a victims’ rights group which helped to pass a Constitutional Amendment in November 2018 that gives crime victims equal rights, recently awarded Former Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle a Victims’ Rights Champion Award.

The Victims’ Rights Champion Award is given to elected officials who have shown support for Marsy’s Law and equal rights for crime victims. Cagle, a Gainesville Republican, is one of several people who have received the award this year.

“I’ve been proudly supporting this bill since it was first introduced and am so happy to see that it passed into legislation last year,” said Cagle. “Now that Marsy’s Law is officially in effect, victims of crime will have the right to know the status of their accused attacker every step of the way in order to protect themselves.”

“Former Lt. Gov. Cagle has demonstrated continued support for Marsy’s Law. From the law’s introduction to it being passed by the Senate,” said Erinn Mahathey, national outreach director for Marsy’s Law for All. “We are extremely appreciative of Former Lt. Gov. Cagle’s devotion to equal rights for all.”
