GSP cites driver in wreck resulting in overturned Cornelia police truck

A Cornelia code enforcement officer was injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Ga. 105 (Veterans Memorial Drive) at Camp Creek Road just after 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.

A 2002 Dodge Caravan driven by Angela Brown Burrell of Mt. Airy was traveling south on Camp Creek Road, failed to obey the traffic signal and struck the passenger side of a 2016 Ford F-150 Cornelia Police Department Code Enforcement pickup truck driven by Officer Michael Lewallen of Cornelia, according to Trooper 1st Class C. Campbell of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

After impact, the truck overturned, coming to rest on the north shoulder on its top facing east, Campbell said.

Lewallen suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center for treatment, Campbell said.

Burrell was charged with failure to obey traffic control devices.
