Defense sparks Buford towin over Loganville

BUFORD — Buford held Loganville to just 15 rushing yards and ran for 338 yards as the Wolves took a 30-7 win over the Red Devils Friday might in a critical Region 8-5A game at Tom Riden Stadium.

The two teams came in tied for the top spot. Buford (8-0, 3-0 Region 8-5A) left as the only undefeated team left while Loganville (2-6, 2-1) dropped into a second place tie with Clarke Central.

Gabe Irvin (23 carries, 167 yards, 2 TDs) and Elijah Turner (19 car., 154 yards, 1 TD) combined for 321 yards for Buford.

The Wolves started strong jumping out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on touchdown runs by quarterback Jarvis Evans and Turner. But they could not add on nursing the lead until the Red Devils scored late in the third quarter on a 67-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 13-7.

Buford managed a 44-yard field goal by Hayden Olsen just before the fourth quarter and finally put the game away on Irvin touchdown runs of 6 and 27-yards.

The Wolves are off next week before traveling to Walnut Grove on Nov. 1.
