FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff coach Tommy Jones says Jayquan Smith is a humble player.
The sophomore running back was tough to catch against Lumpkin County, rushing for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-10 win over the Indians Friday night at The Burial Grounds in Dahlonega.
It was the Bears' first-ever Region 7-3A win.
"Jayquan is a great football player and probably a better person," Jones said. "He works the way that you would want any of your players to work. He was able to make some huge plays for us against Lumpkin County."
Indeed he did. All three of Smith's touchdowns were big plays, going for 56, 61 and 64 yards.
"I give all the congratulations to my offensive line," Smith said. "They stepped up on a game we had to win to keep our playoff hopes alive. They gave me the holes and I just went through them."
