Softball: Branch wins Game 3; East Hall, Banks County roll to easy 1st round wins

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch girls softball team took a 7-4 win over Cedartown Wednesday in a deciding Game 3 to win its Class 4A first round series 2-1 and advance to the second round.

The Lady Falcons (21-11) will move on to play Region 1 champion Northside-Columbus, which swept Baldwin in the first round. Flowery Branch will hit the road for the second round, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Times have yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Region 7-3A champion East Hall demolished Cedar Grove in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Wednesday taking 27-0 and 23-0 wins for the sweep. The Lady Vikings move on to play host to Cook in the second round. 

In Class 3A action, Jackson County split with Calhoun on the road losing the first game 5-2 and rebounding for a 12-10 win in Game 2 to send it to a deciding Game 3. Lumpkin County also will go to a Game 3 after splitting with Westminster. The Lady Indians won the first game 9-1 but fell 2-0 in the second game.

Also in Class 3A, Jefferson split with Sonoraville, losing the first game 11-1 and rallying for a 7-6 win in the second game to send it to a Game 3 on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Jefferson.

In Class 2A, No. 1-ranked Banks County crushed KIPP 30-0 and 25-0 in the first round to advance. The Lady Leopards next will play host to Bacon County next week in the second round.

(The Cherokee Bluff-Pace Academy series in Class 3A was moved to Thursday and will start with a doubleheader.)
