HSNEGA welcomes fourth veterinarian

The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia will welcome a new member to their pack Monday with the addition of veterinarian Dr. Alexandria Glover.

Glover has been practicing general veterinary medicine since 2010 in both Georgia and South Carolina. Julie Edwards, executive director for the humane society, said Glover will be on the clinical team to provide low cost care, including spay/neuter and wellness services.

"The volume we do here is high, and of course everything we do here is safe, but typically we see 50-60 clients per day in the healthy pet clinic and we do anywhere from 30-40 surgeries in the spay-neuter center," said Edward. "In addition to that, we also are caring for approximately 100-150 animals, rescues in our facility at any given time, multiple services we provide both to the public and to our rescue animals, and we need three to four vets to do all those things and do them well."

Edwards said Glover's unique skill set will help the shelter continue their mission.

"Dr. Glover stood out because she is from this area, she graduated from UGA with her veterinary degree, but she's also worked for a Humane Society in Greenville, SC, the past several years in shelter medicine," said Edwards. she said shelter medicine often requires creative thinking, since the scenarios that come in are so varied.

"We see a lot of really bad things that come in to the shelter from abuse, neglect, bad injuries. So to have a vet that has that kind of experience is really helpful."

Glover is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Shelter Veterinarians. She received her undergraduate and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia and her Masters of Preventative Veterinary Medicine from University of California at Davis.

"I am very excited to be working with such a wonderful and dynamic team here at HSNEGA," says Dr. Glover in a press release from HSNEGA. "I have been working here since the spring of this year as a relief veterinarian and everyone has been extremely welcoming. It is evident the team has compassion for shelter pets and the clients, and I am looking forward to being a part of the HSNEGA family."
