Work expected to begin on right turn lanes at Jesse Jewell, John Morrow parkways

Commuters who take Jesse Jewell, John Morrow and Queen City parkways should expect some changes and some work starting at the intersection.

"That is going to be adding right turn lanes to separate motorists from turning right from the through traffic," said Katie Strickland with the Georgia Department of Transportation. "This week, the contractor was given the go-ahead and they can proceed to construction at any time."

Strickland said the next step in the process will be equipment mobilization and utility work in the next few weeks. She said to expect some lane closures overnight as well.

"Once it's done, it's going to really improve traffic flow in the intersection, which is one of the busiest here in Gainesville, and really ease the congestion and motorists who kind of get fed up sitting and waiting, they're going to be able to turn right without having to wait for those people that are going through the intersection."

The project also includes the installation of Intersection Video Detection Systems in Hall County. The contractor is CMES, INC., and completion is scheduled for October 31, 2020.

Previously, GDOT set aside $1.6 million dollars for improvements at the intersection.
