Winger wins Billy Clanton Classic at Senoia Raceway

By Chris Tilley

SENOIA, Ga. - Ashton Winger claimed the biggest win of his young racing career on Sunday night during the Billy Clanton Classic for the Schaeffer’s Oil Fall Nationals Series at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway.

Winger, who hails from Senoia, Georgia, claimed his first career series victory, worth $10,025. He also became the fourth different winner in five points events so far in the Fall Nationals.

Pole sitter Chris Madden and Ashton Winger bought the 22 car field to the start, with of Madden holding the top spot on the first lap over Winger and Clint Smith. He would hold the spot until lap 15, when Winger moved into the top spot.

From there, Winger would be virtually untouchable during the second half of the race and drove to the victory. Madden finished in second, with Shane Clanton in third, Clint Smith in fourth Casey Roberts in fifth.

Four cautions slowed the 60-lap feature. The first yellow came on lap 28 as Dalton Cook spun on the front-stretch. On the restart, the caution would fly again as a gaggle of cars in the back of the field would come to rest in turn three. On lap 45, Jason Croft and Donald McIntosh spun in turn four bringing out the yellow flag. On the lap 45 restart, a multicar accident in turn one brought out the fourth and final caution.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Fall Nationals will return to action on Friday, October 11 at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina. Visit SouthernNationalsSeries.com for more information.
