A proposed change to the county's alcohol ordinance could allow people in south Forsyth to enjoy an adult beverage while shopping.
County Attorney Ken Jarrard was instructed to explore changing the language by commissioners who confirmed the roadways inside The Collection development are private.
Jarrard told the board, "We have some language in our alcohol code that pertains to the ability to have 'to-go' cups and to basically mill about in an MPD/a commercial area with your alcohol, not unlike what they do at the Avalon and and like what they can do at Halcyon."
The amendment to the alcohol ordinance would only apply to that particular development and Jarrard explained, "There's no liability on the county. It's just a function of, you know, we've got to be a little delicate. I really don't think you want to allow people to walk around with open containers at every CBD zoned property."
The board expects to discuss the matter further at their next meeting.
