Boys basketball: Banks takes 8-2A win; Chestatee routs LCA

HOMER — Banks County outscored Oglethorpe County 63-26 in the second and third quarters to pull away for a 91-42 Region 8-2A victory at home on Saturday.

It was a solid rebound for the Leopards (9-7, 4-1 Region 8-2A) one day after falling to Elbert County in a battle for first place.

Banks County led just 16-10 after the first quarter but exploded behind Carl Cleveland and Pierce Martin over the next periods.The big run gave the Leopards a 79-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Cleveland.led Banks with 29 points and added 8 rebounds ,7 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks for good measure. Pierce Martin had 20 points and 6 assists, Clay Gosnell had 9 points and 7 assists, and Wes Ledford chipped in 8 points for the Leopards. Dakota Orr had 4 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.

The Leopards as a team drained 15 3-pointers for the game, including 9 in in a 33-point third quarter.

LANIER CHRISTIAN 44

The War Eagles used a 23-6 second quarter to blow open a close game en route to the big win at the Chestatee gym.

Chestatee (12-5) followed with a 26-13 run in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Ethan Popham led Chestatee with 20 points, including hitting 6 of 7 3-pointers for the game. The War Eagles were 15-of-27 from 3-point range for the game. Popham added 9 rebounds as well.

Cameron Gwyn added 10 points and 9 boards and Brenton Nicholson had 14 points for the War Eagles. Terrell Dixon pulled down 9 rebounds for Chestatee.
