The Gainesville girls volleyball team fell to Lakeview Academy 25-18 and 25-15 Saturday in the finals of the annual Hall County Tournament.
The Lady Red Elephants opened in pool play with a three-set loss to North Hall (13-25, 25-17, 25-14) but rebounded with consecutive two-game sweeps of West Hall (25-17, 25-17), Johnson (25-6, 25-10), and Flowery Branch (26-24, 26-24) to earn a spot in the semifinals. Gainesville dispatched Lanier Christian in two sets (25-9, 25-22) before losing in the chapionship round.
Camille Calkins led 13 aces, 20 kills, 8 blocks, and 6 digs and Ansley Turner had 6 aces, 34 kills, and 47 digs to pace Gainesville. Camille Holcomb added 2 aces, 48 assists, 16 digs, Isabella Appling had 4 aces and 67 digs, and Isabella Garrish added 4 aces, 36 assists, and 11 digs for the Lady red Elephants.
Olivia Gettys had 8 kills, 6 blocks, 6 digs, Karlea Grace Langford added 5 aces and 40 digs, and Lauren Ware had 5 aces, 20 kills, 2 blocks, and 22 digs. Emily Sloan had 4 kills, Kendal Glasper had 2 kills and 6 blocks, Lauren Teasley finished with 2 kills and 16 blocks, and Anna Grace Worley helped spark the defense.
Gainesville will close out the regular season on Tuesday in Habersham with important Area matches with Apalachee and Winder.
