Ashley "Lauren" Parr, the crossing guard who was seriously injured when a chain reaction car accident sent her flying 12-15 feet through the air outside North Hall High School, is making "remarkable progress" in her recovery, her family says.
Parr remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, said Gordon Higgins, spokesman for the Hall County School System, in a statement.
"[Parr] has begun physical therapy and is recovering at a rate unexpected by her attending doctors, especially considering the severity of her injuries when she was first admitted," said Higgins.
The accident happened Sept. 19 when Lanier Dudley, 50, of Talmo was driving his pickup truck in front of the school, and failed to stop as Parr was directing traffic.
Dudley collided with a Jeep Compass, which in turn spun around and hit Parr, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Dudley has been charged with serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, failure to obey an authorized person directing traffic and violating the hands-free law, according to Sgt. Auston Allen with the Georgia State Patrol. He is expected to turn himself in on Wednesday.
Parr's family "thanks everyone for the prayers that have been offered up for Lauren during this time."
