Jimmy Johnson survives for Late Model win at Hartwell

Jimmy Johnson came home with the win in a race of attrition in Saturday night’s Limited/Crate Late Model feature at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway.

Thirteen cars took time in qualifying on the 3/8-mile clay raceway, with Bubba Russell turning the fastest lap. But only 12 cars took the green flag after Russell was unable to make the start.

That moved Drew Collins to the pole, but he soon fell by the wayside with an issue.

Johnson used a three wide move on the outside groove coming down the backstretch to pass Ashley Poole and Scotty Chatham to take the lead.

While Johnson continued to lead, more and more drivers fell by the wayside. When the checkered flag flew, only three cars were left on the raceway. Johnson took the victory, with Poole in second and Jimmy Ivester finishing third.

In other action, Cody Segars held off Shun Thomas to record the Hobby feature victory. Joe Yarbrough finished in third, with Brant Carey in fourth and Austin Brumbelow in fifth.

Preston Strickland edged out Stephen Segars for the win in the Modified Street feature. C.S. Roberts, Ty Nalley and Chase Burdette rounded out the top five.

Tim Cornett was the winner in the Stock V8 feature, with Chance Segars in second, Paul Moore in third, Rocky Jones in fourth and Chris Brown in fifth.

Jefferey Lord scored the victory in the Stock Four feature, followed by Kevin Kelly in second, Jacob Rhome in third, Bubba Nation in fourth and Elliott Brayboy in fifth.

North West held off Randy Shaw for the Front Wheel Drive feature win. Alex Powell crossed the line in third, with John Shaw in fourth and Joel Powell, Sr. in fifth.

B.J. Powell was the winner in the Powder Puff feature, with Candice Goldsmith in second and Halee Brown in third.

Hartwell Speedway returns to action on Saturday, September 29 with the annual Pause For The Cause race, which also marks the final points race of the season.
