Three events late Thursday in downtown Gainesville, including the Gainesville High School Homecoming Parade, will result in street closings in that part of town for about three hours.
"The motoring public can expect delays and lane closures from about 5:30 pm to around 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 20, 2018, around the downtown area," according to a GPD press release. "The Gainesville Square will be closed to all traffic during this timeframe. The main area of concern for motorist should be the Downtown Square; it will be closed from West Academy at Spring Street and Washington at Green Street."
In addition to the parade, gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp will be hosting an event at The Arts Council Depot from 5:30-7:00, and "Gainesville Goes Gold" will have a number of things going on, including a concert on the square, calling attention to childhood cancer.
Motorists are asked to use alternate routes to avoid any delays or congestion.
