MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Piedmont College men's soccer team used a pair of goals from Cameron Earls to earn a 2-1 road win over Huntingdon College in its USA South opener.
The Lions (2-1, 1-0 USA South) jumped out to an early lead in the first half as Earls struck for the first time this season in the 37th minute. The Hawks (0-4, 0-1 USA South) equalized in the second half before Earls delivered the game-winner in the 55th minute.
In its first road contest of the season, PC started the day strong as Earls converted his first of the season and second of his career, off an assist from Jose Linares late in the first half.
The Lions held a 10-5 shot advantage in the first half as well as a 6-3 edge in corners.
After the break, the Hawks were able to tie the score on a goal from Rich Horton in the 51st minute. However, the Lions responded quickly as Earls decided the game with his 55thminute goal.
TURNING POINT:
- Earls' second goal of the day gave the Lions a 2-1 lead that they never relinquished.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Earls, a sophomore midfielder, led the way with his first career multi-goal outing.
- Cameron Verona improved to 2-0 in goal with five saves.
- VICTOR MUNOZ led the Lions with five shot attempts.
