ELLIJAY — Lumpkin County maintained focus through three lightning delays to complete a 23-13 fightback win over Gilmer on Friday in Ellijay.
The Indians (2-2) refused to be derailed through a four-hour-and-nine-minute contest, scoring 17 unanswered points over the second half to notch the road victory.
Luke Smith scored two touchdowns on the night, including a 72-yard sprint in the third quarter that notched the contest at 13-13. His other touchdown came in the first half, as Lumpkin trailed 13-6 at the interval.
Kyle Amburgey added the other touchdown run of the second half, as he scampered 51 yards to give Lumpkin a 20-13 lead with 6:41 left in the third.
Jordan Buice tacked on a 36-yard field goal to help seal the victory.
The Indians take a bye next week before beginning Region 7-3A play on Sept. 21.
