Hicks, Pegher, Jr., Umberger get weekend FASTRAK wins

By Wesley Outland

A trio of drivers visited victory lane in FASTRAK Racing Series action over the weekend, as the series held its fourth consecutive East Coast Rumble over the Labor Day holiday.

Benji Hicks, Mike Pegher, Jr. and Brandon Umberger all scored wins over the three day holiday. Hicks was the winner on Friday night at Beckley Motorsports Park in Prosperity, West Virginia. Pegher, Jr. took the victory on Saturday at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia, while Umberger scored the win on Sunday at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia.

On Friday night at Beckley Motorsports Park, Hicks jumped out to the early lead, and never looked back en route to the victory. Even a late challenge from Matthew Nance didn’t phase the Mount Airy, North Carolina speedster, as he drove to his second series win.

Nance held on to finish in second, with Carson Ferguson in third, Brandon Umberger in fourth and Corey Almond in fifth.

The action moved to Tyler county Speedway on Saturday night, where Pennsylvania’s Mike Pegher, Jr. held off Matt Long and Dillon Brown for the $2000 victory.

Michael Bland took the lead off the start, and would hold the top spot through the halfway point of the race.

But just past halfway, Pegher, Jr. moved to the point, with Long in pursuit. The lead duo would battle back and forth for the lead, with Pegher, Jr. coming out on top.

Brown, Bland and Zack Dohm rounded out the top five.

On Sunday night, Rural Retreat Virginia’s Brandon Umberger came out on top of a late race battle at Wythe Raceway.

In a race interrupted eight times by caution flags, the final restart with two laps to go saw Umberger working hard to hold off Matt Long and Carson Ferguson. Umberger came away the victor, taking home the $3,000 victory.

Long finished in second, while Ferguson’s third place locked up the East Coast Rumble Championship.

David Watts finished in fourth, followed by Brett Hamm in fifth.

The FASTRAK Racing Series returns to action on Saturday, September 8 at 311 Motor Speedway in Pine Hall, North Carolina. For more info, visit FASTRAKRacing.com.
