It had been about a year since John Hobbs had competed at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia.
But the Conyers, Georgia driver proved he had not missed a beat, as he took home the Super Pro victory in Saturday’s Summit ET Drag Racing event.
Hobbs powered his 1970 Chevy Camaro through seven round wins, eventually facing off against Commerce native Ashley Hancock in the division final round.
Hobbs took the win on a 5.71 dial, running a 5.730 ET at 119.81 mph and a 0.009 reaction. Hancock dialed in a 4.43 and ran a 4.46 at 153.86 MPH and a 0.025 reaction.
Other winners on the day included Austin Smith in Pro, Scott Reynolds in Sportsman, Randell Cross, Jr. in Super Pro Bike, Stan Russell in Street ET Bike, Shawn Wilson in 5-9 Jr. Dragster, Shannon Blanton in 10-12 Jr. Dragster, Maddie Kate Halsey in 13-17 Dragster and Claude Thomason in Jr. Street.
