MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Michael Chilton charged to the lead midway through Saturday night’s Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series feature at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee, and went on to score his first career series victory.
Chilton, from Salvisa, Kentucky, held off challenges from Shannon Buckingham and Tommy Kerr to record the win.
Chilton was driving the car normally driven by Chicky Barton. Barton recently had leg surgery and asked Chilton drive his car. Chilton was not going to race over the weekend before getting Barton’s request.
Buckingham finished in second, with Kerr in third, Jay Scott in fourth and Robby Moses in fifth.
Bobby Giffin, Dusty Carver, Ray McElhiney, Eric Hickerson and Dakotah Knuckles rounded out the top ten.
