Developers want to expand Lanier Village Estates in North Hall

By B.J. Williams
When the Hall County Planning Commission meets next week, board members will take up a rezoning request that would allow for the expansion of Lanier Village Estates on Thompson Bridge Road.

The developer, THW Design, has filed paperwork with two different requests to expand the retirement community.

The first part of the request involves the addition and rezoning of two tracts of land, totaling 15.07 acres, for the purpose of building 31 residential cottages in the community. There are already 35 free-standing cottages in the community, and the developer proposes building similar structures on the addition. This portion of the community would be accessed by the current entrance on Thompson Bridge Road and a new entrance to be built from Mt. Vernon Road that aligns with the intersection of Corinth Drive. According to documents from the Hall County Planning Department, the location and design of the driveway into the development would have to be approved by the county engineer and the State Department of Transportation.

Additionally, the developer wants to expand the current assisted living apartment complex by constructing a building that would add 11 assisted living beds.

The Hall County Planning Department staff has recommended approval of the request with five conditions.

Because the regular meeting date for the planning commission falls on Labor Day, the board will meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 at the Hall County Government Center.
