Lumpkin County wreck on Ga. 400 claims lives of 2 children

Post 37 Troopers are investigating a single-car crash that claimed the lives of two young children on Ga. 400 north at Whelchel Road in Lumpkin County Wednesday night.

The crash involved two fatalities, a 2-year-old male and 4-year-old female, according to Cpl. J.A. Caldwell of Georgia State Patrol Post 37 in Cumming, who said troopers were notified of the wreck at 8:26 p.m. Wednesday.

Caldwell said the children’s mother was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The two children were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The vehicle was a 1997 Toyota 4Runner driven by a 24-year-old female, Caldwell said.

“The investigation is currently active and being investigated by Post 37 personnel and the Troop B SCRT team,” Caldwell said by email just before midnight. “Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.”
