Kellie Lynn Collins, who dropped out of the race prior to the May 22 primary elections, allegedly shot and killed Curt Cain, 41, at his home in Aiken County, South Carolina, according to Fox News.
Police were called to the home for a wellness check, according to local media reports.
Collins was arrested Tuesday, but investigators believe Cain had been dead since Aug. 4. The two had apparently been living together, and may have gotten married before the alleged crime.
Collins is being held at the McDuffie County Jail, charged with murder and grand larceny. The larceny charge stems from Cain's Subaru Legacy, which was reported missing.
