Park in South Hall County to reopen next week

By AccessWDUN Staff
A Hall County park closed during the economic downturn will reopen next week, according to government officials.

Platt Park in south Hall County will reopen to the public on July 31 with new features and upgrades, courtesy of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds.

The park was closed because of budget cuts in 2011. Since then, the park has been upgraded with pickleball courts, basketball courts, additional picnic tables and updated playground equipment. The park has also been upgraded to include lighting, gates and new signage. All of the funding came from SPLOST VII proceeds.

"It is an honor to provide citizens with renewed access to this tranquil recreational venue, which enhances the overall quality of life we enjoy as citizens of Hall County," said District 1 Commissioner Kathy Cooper in a county-issued press statement.

A drop-in reception to celebrate the reopening of Platt Park is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31 at the park off E. Reed Road in Gainesville.
