Flowery Branch man tried to burn down home with a woman and children inside

A Flowery Branch man faces charges after deputies said he assaulted a woman and took steps towards burning down the home with the woman and two small children inside.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said deputies arrested 41 year-old Gregory Alan Garrett early Saturday morning at a home on Club Crest.

Investigators found that Garrett kicked, hit, and threw things at the woman, leaving her badly bruised.

They said he then brought charcoal and gasoline inside the house with the intention of burning it down.

Garrett faces charges including three counts of aggravated assault, misdemeanor battery, terroristic threats, and third-degree cruelty to children. The woman refused medical treatment.

He was booked into the Hall County jail and his bond hearing is set for Thursday. A committal hearing is set for Garrett for July 27, 2018.
