UPDATE: Lumpkin County deputies identify murder victim

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

A Facebook post says Lumpkin County authorities now know the name of the woman who traveled from Lumpkin County to Kentucky and was murdered and credits Social Media with playing a big part in identifying her.

The woman, whose name still has not been released, had attended last week's Rainbow Family gathering.

"I would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone with the overwhelming response about the identity of the female victim involved in the murder in Kentucky," Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said in a posting Sunday morning.  "The victim has been identified. The response with Social Media was instrumental in getting the word out and I thank all that contacted me with information. At this time, we cannot release the identity of the female victim until we receive further notification from Elizabethtown (Ky.) Police Department."

Kentucky authorities said Saturday they arrested Joseph Bryan Capstraw, 20, and charged him with the woman's murder.  They added he said he met her during the Rainbow Family of Living Light gathering in Dahlonega.

Capstraw told police he and the woman left the event and hitchhiked northward. News sources in Elizabethtown reported Capstraw has told police he blacked out and when he awoke the woman was dead and he had injuries to his hands.
