A Dacula man has been arrested and charged with biting a 14-year-old Braselton girl on the buttocks.

The incident happened the night of July 4th at Lake Lanier Islands, according to Derreck Booth, Public Information Officer for the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

"Several witnesses actually saw this incident unfold," Booth said. "What we believe happened is this young lady was in the water with family members in the beach area...swimming, having a good time, and this gentleman - Jonathan William Herbert - at some point, was in the water near her and swam under the water and bit her on her buttocks."

Booth said deputies responded to 911 calls from witnesses. They arrested Herbert around 8:30 p.m.

The 30-year-old suspect has been charged with battery, felony second-degree cruelty to a child, public drunkenness and sexual battery against a child under the age of 16.

"Mr. Herbert has no known ties to this young lady or any of her family members," Booth said.

At last report, Herbert remained in jail.
