Gwinnett County to stop picking up glass recyclables

As of Sunday, July 1, Gwinnett County residents will no longer have the option of having glass items picked up by the county for recycling.

In January, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved phasing out glass recycling when it renewed contracts with the hauling companies that collect and remove recyclable products from residences, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The haulers apparently told the county they could not find a glass buyer willing to take the large amounts of recyclable glass coming from Gwinnett County.

Because glass is now excluded from the mix, monthly recycling fees for residents will go down.

Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful said it will still accept glass for recycling at its locations in Snellville and Norcross.
