Comcast completes fiber network in downtown Gainesville

By AccessWDUN Staff
Comcast has completed a fiber network designed to deliver multi-gigabit speeds to businesses in downtown Gainesville.

The 10-mile network is designed to serve the businesses, government agencies and hospitals located along Shallowford Road on Gainesville’s west side, to the intersection of 369 and 985, east of the city. The network also connects the city’s north side, along Jesse Jewel Parkway, down to the intersection of Athens Street and Georgia State Route 11.

“We applaud these types of investments that bring the latest technology to businesses across Georgia,” said Georgia Senate President Pro Tem Butch Miller (R-Gainesville). “Gainesville has one of the fastest growing business districts in the state, and having technology like this in place not only supports existing demands but prepares us for future growth.”

“We are pleased to make this important technology investment in Gainesville,” said Doug Guthrie, Regional Senior Vice President at Comcast. “We understand the impact that gigabit internet speeds can have in our communities, and we look forward to extending this technology to other parts of Georgia.”

Comcast’s expansion will also reach Trees of Gainesville, a new upscale apartment complex. Residents will now have the option to subscribe to Comcast’s X1 entertainment operating system and several tiers of high-speed Internet service.
