A housewarming celebration was held Thursday for a recipient of Hall County's Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP).
Carrie Ivey received the keys to her newly rehabilitated home on Bel Air Circle.
"We're incredibly honored to play a small role in providing Ms. Ivey with these upgrades to her home," said Nancy Smallwood, Hall County grants manager.
Funding for the upgrades came from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs' CHIP Program. CHIP funds are used to assist local governments, nonprofit organizations and public housing authorities address the needs of affordable housing development in their communities.
Ivey is one of 16 homeowners in Hall County who has been assisted by the CHIP funds awarded to Hall County in 2011 and 2012. That round of funding, which totaled over $600,000, has been used over the years to help homeowners with down payment assistance, home rehabilitation, and total house reconstruction.
"We are continuing to work with members of the community and other nonprofit agencies to identify other areas of need in this community that could benefit from CHIP funds," Smallwood said. "We are also continuing to apply for new CHIP funding so that decent, safe and sanitary housing will remain available to Hall County citizens going forward."
