Officials release identity of Royston woman found dead in creek

State and local officials are seeking the public’s help with information regarding the death of a Royston woman.

“Authorities have identified a body recovered from Hanna Creek in Royston on June 8 as Amber Brittany Hester,” said Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles on Thursday. “Hester, 28, of Royston, was discovered partially submerged and was believed to have been deceased for several days.”

The GBI, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriffs’ Office, Madison County Coroner’s Office and the Madison County Fire and Water Rescue Team recovered Hester’s body, according to Miles.

Fingerprints taken during an autopsy at the GBI Crime Lab helped officials identify Hester, who was believed to have disappeared several days before she was found, according to Miles.

Miles said Thursday officials have not released Hester’s cause and manner of death at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about Hester’s disappearance or death is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 795-6202 or the Athens GBI Office at (706) 552-2309.
