Johnson takes Southeastern Dirt Late Model win at WBS

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Jimmy Johnson powered to the lead on the opening lap of Saturday night’s Southeastern Dirt Late Model Series feature at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway, and went on to score the victory.

The Monroe, Georgia speedster led every lap en route to the victory at the ¼ mile clay raceway.

On the drop of the green flag, pole sitter Chad Puckett held the lead as far as the first turn. By the time the leaders exited turn two, Johnson had overhauled Puckett, and took the lead as they raced down the backstretch.

Behind the leaders, Drew Collins worked to hold off Bubba Russell for the third position.

Up front, Johnson found himself dealing with a charge from Puckett, who could close going into the turns. Each time, Johnson could pull out to an advantage down the straighaways.

Both battles were broken up when the only caution of the night flew after John Anderson’s car slowed to a stop on the frontstretch.

On the restart, Puckett tried to challenge on the inside of turn one, but Johnson quickly pulled back out to the lead.

Meanwhile, Russell began challenging Collins for third. He was finally able to get a run coming off turn two. By the time they raced off turn four, Russell was finally able to clear Collins to take over third.

In the mean time, Johnson continued to pull out his advantage over the field, and would race unchallenged to the victory.

Puckett finished in second, with Russell third, Collins in fourth and Chris Woods in fifth.

In other action, Aaron Criswell took the victory in the Modified Street feature. Shane Peppers finished in second, with Jordan Poole in third.

Chris Jones held off Chase Lampp to score the Hobby feature win, with Chase Lampp in second, Andy Barton in third, Keith Baker in fourth and Chad Atha in fifth.

Ronnie Poole was the winner in the Stock V8 feature. Mark Chancey, Jeff Casper, Jr. Carter and Trip Sexton rounded out the top five.

Justin Taylor was the winner in the Stock 4A feature, with Kyle Braswell second, James Gaines third, Allen Cantrell fourth and David Nash fifth.

Kyle Walker scored the victory in the Stock 4B feature. Cody Albright came home in second, followed by Brandon Cox in third, Franklin Sargent in fourth and Brandon Franklin in fifth.
