Dillard's at Mall of Georgia evacuated, no danger found

Shoppers and employees at the Dillard's location at the Mall of Georgia in Buford were evacuated Thursday after an employee claimed an illness she experienced the night before could be related to a package she received at the store.

Gwinnett County Fire Services Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the Hazmat team entered the store around noon, located the package and performed tests that showed the contents were of no harm to anyone.

He said based on the circumstances and the evidence at the scene, it is likely the contents were not a contributor to the illness suffered by the employee.

Rutledge said the first floor of the store was the area of evacuation.

He added during the evacuation two employees on the top floor were tested by EMS personnel, but for a matter that was unrelated to the incident on the first floor.

The store was re-opened around 2 p.m., according to Rutledge.
