Wet weather warps racing schedule at several tracks

Mother Nature proved to be a strong competitor at race tracks around the southeast over the weekend, as rain washed out racing programs at several facilities.

Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia had planned to celebrate the track’s 49th season of competition, but a late rain shower led track officials to cancel the night’s activities. Dixie will return to action on Saturday, May 26 with a visit by the Spring Nationals Series. For more information, visit DixieSpeedway.com.

Two of Northeast Georgia’s top dirt tracks also saw their events rained out for the weekend. Hartwell Speedway was slated to host the Wendell Rousey Remembrance race, but had to postpone the event thanks to rain leading into the weekend. The raceway returns to action on Saturday, May 26. Georgia’s Toccoa Raceway was also washed out on Saturday night. The speedway has a big Memorial Day event planned for Sunday, May 27, highlighted by a fireworks display. For more information, visit ToccoaRaceway.com.

The wet weather didn’t help one of the most historic asphalt short tracks in the south either, as North Carolina’s Hickory Motor Speedway was rained out Saturday night. Rain also plagued several dirt Late Model Series. The Southern Nationals Bonus Series was set to compete at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Kentucky Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Kentucky, but the wet weather interceded. The Lake Cumberland event was cancelled and won’t be rescheduled, while the Richmond Raceway event will now be held on June 16. Visit SouthernNationalsSeries.com for more information.

The Georgia based ULTIMATE Super Late Models had planned to run twice over the weekend, at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina on Friday night and North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday night. Both were washed out. For updates, visit UltimateSupers.com.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series saw the $10,000 to win Outlaws Invasion weekend at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, Ohio washed out. For schedule updates visit WoOLMS.com.
