South Carolina man gets life sentence for molestation of North Gwinnett girl

By B.J. Williams
A South Carolina man is handed a life sentence for molesting the daughter of a woman he was living with in Gwinnett County.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported a Gwinnett County Superior Court jury convicted 49-year-old Jason Dwayne Martin on one count of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation involving the victim.

The victim was the daughter of Martin's girlfriend, a woman he lived with in the Buford area.

In 2014, the child reported the abuse to a school counselor and then to her grandmother. Martin moved to South Carolina shortly after the child reported the abuse, according to the newspaper.

The victim was 10-years-old at the time of the abuse, but the newspaper said she did not report the abuse until she was 12.

The jury deliberated for four hours before handing down the guilty verdict on Monday.
