Towns County drug investigation culminates in RICO arrest

Towns County Sheriff Chris Clinton has announced the arrest of a Hiawassee man on drug charges following an extensive investigation.

On Thursday, May 10, Towns County Sheriff’s Office investigators concluded an extensive investigation, assisted by investigators from the Union County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, according to a statement from Clinton.

A search warrant executed Thursday at a home off Sims Road in Hiawassee yielded drugs with a street value of more than $7,000, according to Clinton, who reported numerous drug purchases were made during the course of the undercover operation.

Samuel Dwayne Hedden, 63, of Hiawassee is charged with one count of violation of the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act; five counts of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act involving the sale of marijuana; four counts of the violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act involving the sale of Xanax; three counts of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act involving the sale of methamphetamine; and one count of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of drug-related objects, according to Clinton.

Additional charges are likely, Clinton said.
