Hall GOP to hold county commission forum on Thursday

Just days before the May 22 primary, the Hall County Republican Party will host the four Republican candidates for Hall County Commission in an evening forum next week.

Local party chairman Matt Smith said the event is scheduled for Thursday, May 17 at GOP headquarters, 715 Queen City Parkway in Gainesville. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet session with the candidates. The forum will begin at 6:30.

Smith said the format for the event is debate-style. He and former county commissioner Craig Lutz will moderate.

Smith said the four Republican candidates running for the commission have been invited to attend,

District One candidates are incumbent Kathy Cooper and challenger George Thorndyke. The winner faces Democrat Michael Parker in November. District Three candidates are incumbent Scott Gibbs and challenger Shelly Echols. There is no Democratic opposition for the District Three post.
