Habersham man sentenced to 60 years for child molestation, exploitation

A Clarkesville man will spend nearly 60 years in prison for child-related crimes.

John Marvin Nix, 53, was arrested twice in 2017, then was found guilty by a jury last week of one count of child molestation and 14 counts of sexual exploitation of children, according to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

Nix was sentenced by Judge B. Chan Caudell Wednesday afternoon to serve 59 years in prison and one year on probation for the crimes, according to the D.A.’s office.

Nix was arrested Feb. 20, 2017, for child molestation. He again was booked on sexual exploitation of children charges on Oct. 30, 2017, jail records show.

Assistant District Attorney Meredith Davis and Assistant D.A. Ben Green presented the case on behalf of the State of Georgia and District Attorney George R. Christian’s office.

Sgt. Richard Stein of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit investigated the case.
