Forsyth County bike skills and pump track project receives extra funds

As Forsyth County Commissioners move forward on a new bike skills and pump track at Haw Creek Park, they get an unexpected financial boost.

The budget manager for the Forsyth Park Foundation told county leaders that a large chunk of the funds came from a local family in honor of a loved one. He said, "Dan Brunick was a resident of Forsyth County and he was a big-time mountain biker. He passed away of a heart attack in December. In lieu of flowers, his family set up donations to give to the Forsyth County Parks Foundation to go towards a biking project."

He also explained that a pump track, "...is like a kids' playground for bikes. They have some ramps and some slopes and some curves that they go around. It's more fun teaching the skills of mountain biking in a controlled setting."

The Brunick family raised $9,010.00 and the family identified the pump track as the project to receive the earmarked funds.

County Commissioners recently approved the Haw Creek Park bike skills and pump track project as a recipient of SPLOST VIIb funds.
