By Bryan Pirkle Reporter

A plane crash near the Forsyth-Hall county line early Saturday evening left one person dead and two others injured.

Three unidentified people on board the single-engine plane accounted for the casualties, with Forsyth County authorities saying one male victim died as a result of the impact, while two other males were transported to area hospitals in stable condition.

The aircraft crashed just after 5 p.m. in the area of Browns Bridge Road (State Route 369) and Waldrip Circle, a location that is just inside Gainesville city limits on the Forsyth County side of the border.

Deputies arriving on scene found the aircraft body down an embankment off the north side of the roadway, while a wing was found on the opposite side.

Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater told WSB-TV  that the plane was likely trying to make an emergency landing along Browns Bridge Road, but instead collided with the tail-end of a sedan traveling down the roadway. Rainwater confirmed that the occupants of the sedan, a male and female, did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

A small fire was also reported in the aftermath of the collision.

Browns Bridge Road was completely shut down in order to facilitate rescue and clean-up efforts, with traffic being diverted onto Waldrip Circle.

Rainwater said the National Transportation Safety Board was called to the scene, and is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
