Chilton, Gilpin take Spring Nationals weekend victories

Michael Chilton and Devin Gilpin both recorded Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series victories over the weekend.

Chilton drove the win at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Kentucky on Friday night, while Gilpin made the trip to victory lane at Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky.

On Friday night, Chilton recorded the $4,000 payday after holding off Eddie Carrier, Jr. for the win at Ponderosa Speedway.

Chilton made the move to the take the lead Eddie Carrier, Jr. as the duo worked through slower traffic. The two raced side-by-side, with Chilton using a lap car to pick up the lead on lap 29.

From there, Chilton drove away from the field to score the victory. Carrier, Jr. finished in second, with Aaron Ridley in third, Eric Wells in fourth and Jason Jameson in fifth.

On Saturday night, Devin Gilpin scored his first career series victory in Florence Speedway’s Spring 50.

Friday night’s winner, Michael Chilton, paced the first 16 laps of the race. Gilpin would duel with Chilton for the top spot before eventually taking to the point on lap 17. Gilpin would lead two laps before relinquishing the lead back to Chilton on the 19th lap.

Chilton would hold the lead until ten to go when Gilpin made his move to grab the lead and go on to score the win.

Chilton finished in second, with Eric Wells, Steve Casebolt, and Eddie Carrier, Jr in fifth.

The next Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series races will be May 24 at Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway, May 25 at Georgia’s Boyd’s Speedway, May 26 at Georgia’s Dixie Speedway and May 27 at Georgia’s Rome Speedway.
