Baseball: North Hall, Lakeview finish regular season with wins; Jefferson falls

GAINESVILLE — The North Hall baseball team closed the regular season with a 18-8 defeat of Dawson County on Friday in Gainesville.

The Trojans pounded out 11 hits but yielded 4 errors.

Mark Sweet earned the win in 2 2/3 innings work, allowing just 3 hits but walking 5 batters and yielding 7 runs (4 earned). He also struck out 3 batters.

Reese Olson helped lead North Hall at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI, while Caleb Clark went 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI. David Seavey also doubled and drove in 2 runs, while Tyler Brooks had a hit and drove in 2 runs.

The Region 7-3A champion Trojans will play in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs next week, time and oppnent to be determined.

The Lions (12-15) rounded out the regular season with a sweep of the Indians on Friday in Gainesville.

Holden Cooper stood out in Game 1, going 3-for-3, with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI while also earning the win on the mound, pitching 5 innings and striking out 7 batters. 

Sam Stewart also finished 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and 2 RBI in Game 1, while Ian Echols went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI. Evan Gravitt also had a single and scored 2 runs 

In Game 2, Andrew Estes went 2-for-2, scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases, while JD Roark had an RBI single and 2 walks and stole a base. Jordan Thomas also had a hit, RBI and walk, while Campbell Melson doubled and drove in 2 runs. 

KJ Millwood pitched 2 innings in relief, striking out 5 batters, including three in a row in the fourth inning. 

The Lions graduate two seniors: JD Roark and Evan Gravitt.
 

MADISON COUNTY 5,
JEFFERSON 4

The Dragons (18-9, 11-4 Region 8-4A) wrapped the regular season with a loss on Friday in Danielsville.

Sammy Elegreet doubled and Ryan Godfrey went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for Jefferson. Hart Blacktsock also had a hit and an RBI.

Jefferson plays again on Thursday in the first round of the state playoffs, opponent and time to be determined.
