Boutique wine shop 'Sip Happens' could be coming to Suwanee Town Center

A new boutique wine shop could be coming to Suwanee Town Center, if approved this Tuesday by Suwanee City Council.

Applicants Laurie and Gregory Collins would put "Sip Happens" near Friends Bar & Grill along Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road if given approval, said Marty Allen, Suwanee city manager.

"It's primarily a wine and boutique shop that sells retail wine, cheeses and meats. They would like the ability to sell the wine to-go at our events, like a lot of our other businesses do," said Allen.

The applicants have requested a downtown pub application that would allow them to do that.

"Our previous regulations, in order to sell an alcoholic beverage you had to have a restaurant component. They do not operate a restaurant as part of this business," said Allen.

A new provision in the code allows for "downtown pubs," which can bypass the need for a restaurant while still selling beer and wine, provided the business meets certain requirements.

Council will give the matter a final vote Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Suwanee City Hall during its regular voting session.
