WATKINSVILLE — Jefferson's five-game winning streak in Region 8-4A came to a tough end in a 10-9 loss in eight innings to Oconee County Friday night.

Despite the loss, the Dragons (14-7, 7-2 Region 8-4A) still maintain a two-game lead over Stephens County, North Oconee, and St. Pius with two weeks left in the regular season.

Jefferson led 1-0 and 2-1 in the first two innings but the Warriors (6-16, 1-8) opened up a 5-2 lead after the third inning. The Dragons erased a 6-3 deficit in the fifth as Sammy Elegreet and Billy Finch both stroked two-run singles to give them a 7-6 lead. But Oconee County answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Jefferson tied the game at 9-9 with a pair of runs in the sixth but Oconee won it in the eighth on the last of seven Jefferson errors for the game. Five of the Warriors' 10 runs were unearned.

Patrick Hickox took the loss in relief.

Zac Corbin had two hits and three RBI to lead the Jefferson offense. The Dragons, however, stranded 12 base runners for the game.

The Dragons will be back in Region 8-4A action on Monday traveling to St. Pius for the first of a three-game series.
