The Georgia Department of Transportation is looking to make traveling on the state's interstates a little easier over the first two weekends of April.
GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland said Tuesday that the department would restrict lane closures on interstates from noon Friday until 10:00 p.m. Sunday over the Easter weekend. She said the restrictions would go back into effect the following weekend from noon Friday, April 6 until 10:00 p.m. that Sunday due to many school systems across the state having their Spring breaks.
"This is really going to help ease some of the congestion that we see on our interstates during these high travel volume weekends," Strickland said.
The restrictions will affect any lane closures due to construction or other active projects on interstates. The DOT last used the restrictions over the New Years weekend.
