'I want to be more pro-active': Hoschton welcomes first city administrator

HOSCHTON — Even though there are no proverbial shoes to fill, April Plank still feels as though she has a big pair of shoes to fill as Hoschton's first city administrator.

"They've never had this position ... I am brand spanking new," said Plank with a laugh.

"I'm the newbie, which is kind of intimidating, in a way."

Plank took the job after serving as the Winder City Clerk for four-plus years, where she said she took on extra training as a self-admitted municipal government junkie to learn all the ins and outs of her local government.

"I just really got excited about it. I wanted to know everything. I guess I found a passion in it," said Plank.

When it comes to Hoschton, Plank said she's just as excited to be a part of the city's expected growth, with housing projects springing up all over town.

"Hoschton is small, and I love it," said Plank, adding that it's not going to remain this small in the coming years.

"And to be part of something that has such an amazing future ahead of itself — and be part of it before it gets started. Hoschton has grown tremendously in the last five, seven years, but to be a part of this expected growth is really exciting for me."

And she said, as city administrator, she's hoping to be ahead of the curve when the growth gets going.

"I want the city to be more pro-active and prepare for what's ahead of us in the next six months to 24 months," said Plank.

Though Plank's first day in her office inside Hoschton City Hall was on Feb. 12, she was officially hired on March 7.
