Baseball: Jefferson takes pair of wins at Ty Cobb Diamond Day

FRANKLIN SPRINGS — The Jefferson baseball team swept a pair of games Saturday at Emmanuel College in the Ty Cobb Diamond Day Tournament.

In the Dragons first game of the day, Brandon Trefren, Brycen Jewell, and Zac Corbin combined on a 1-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Shiloh. Jefferson scored one run in the first on an error and added three more in the fourth. Justin Cole had two hits and an RBI to lead the Dragons offense.

In the second game, Jefferson rallied to beat Franklin County 6-4.

The Dragons trailed 4-2 after allowing the Lions three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Jefferson answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Clayton Jones had two hits and two RBI and Zac Corbin and Cole each one hit and one RBI for the Dragons.

Vinny Farley picked up the win on the mound pitching a scoreless sixth inning in relief. Lane Watkins got the save pitching a perfect seventh and striking out two batters.

With the wins Jefferson improved 6-1 on the season. The Dragons next will play host to Gainesville on Monday.
